Fireplace Damper Repair

The damper controls airflow through the fireplace — open when you burn, sealed when you don't. A damper that sticks or won't seal makes the fireplace harder to use and lets conditioned air escape.

Small part, real comfort difference

When a damper won't close or seal, warm air leaves up the flue and cold air sneaks in. When it won't open, the fireplace can't vent properly. Both are common with older, rusted, or warped dampers.

Repair or replace

We repair damper hardware where we can and replace the damper where that's the better fix, including top-sealing options that close the flue at the top for a tighter seal. The right choice depends on the fireplace and the current damper's condition.

Frequently asked questions

Is a fireplace damper the same as a chimney damper?

They refer to the same job — controlling airflow through the flue. Some homes use a throat damper at the fireplace; others use a top-sealing damper at the chimney top.

Can a stuck damper be repaired?

Often, yes. Many stuck or leaking dampers can be repaired, and where they can't, a replacement restores a proper seal.
