Chimney Chase Cover Repair & Installation

A chase cover is the metal top on a factory-built (framed) chimney chase. When it rusts or pools water, it drips straight down into the chase — so a small stain up top can mean a real problem below.

What a chase cover does

On a factory-built chimney, the chase cover is the metal lid that keeps water out of the framed chase around the flue. A flat or dished cover that holds water will eventually rust through and leak, often showing up first as rust streaks running down the sides.

Repair or replace

We evaluate the cover's condition and either repair it or install a new cover sized and sloped to shed water. Addressing a failing chase cover early helps protect the framing and flue inside the chase.

Signs a chase cover is failing

  • Rust streaks running down the chimney chase
  • Standing water pooling on top of the cover
  • Visible rust holes or thin, flaking metal
  • Water entering the chase or firebox
  • A loose or poorly fitted cover

What our service covers

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a chase cover and a crown?

A crown is the masonry top on a brick or stone chimney; a chase cover is the metal top on a factory-built framed chase. Both keep water out at the top.

Why is my chase cover rusting?

Flat covers that hold water rust from standing moisture. A properly sloped cover in a suitable material sheds water instead of collecting it.
